Practical guide

What to know before you start

Split PDF creates new documents from the page ranges you define. Add one or more ranges, reorder them, and either download each range as a separate PDF inside a ZIP file or combine the selected ranges into one new PDF.

Define exact page ranges

Each range has a start and end page. A range of 3–7 produces pages 3 through 7, while 5–5 produces only page 5. Ranges can overlap when you intentionally need the same source page in more than one output.

  • Use multiple independent ranges
  • Drag ranges to control merged output order
  • Choose separate files or one combined result

Split, extract, or remove?

Use Split PDF when your output is organized by page ranges. Extract Pages is faster for selecting scattered thumbnails. Remove Pages is designed for keeping everything except the pages you mark.

  • Split: create range-based documents
  • Extract: keep selected pages
  • Remove: discard selected pages

What the output retains

Pages are copied into new PDFs without intentionally rasterizing them. Page sizes and visible page content are retained. Document-level bookmarks, signatures, forms, attachments, and scripts may not survive page extraction unchanged.

  • The original PDF is not edited
  • Separate outputs are delivered in a ZIP archive
  • Large PDFs require enough free browser memory

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers based on how this tool actually works.

Can I split a PDF into individual pages?

Yes. Add one-page ranges, such as 1–1 and 2–2, or use Extract Pages when selecting many individual pages visually.

Can ranges overlap?

Yes. Overlapping ranges intentionally repeat the shared pages in multiple outputs.

What does “merge all pages” do?

It places all defined ranges into one PDF, following the order of the ranges shown in the control panel.

Will splitting change the original PDF?

No. KissPDF generates new files and leaves the source file untouched.
