PDF Font Extractor

Extract Fonts from PDF Online

Find fonts embedded in a PDF, see which pages use them and their file sizes, and download the extractable font data.

Key Points

  • List extractable fonts embedded in PDF pages
  • Ignore referenced system fonts that contain no embedded data
  • Identify subset fonts and their limited character sets
  • Download individual fonts or one ZIP archive

Capabilities

  • Show file size and page usage for each embedded font
  • Ignore font references without downloadable data
  • Recognize TTF, OTF, WOFF, CFF, and Type 1 data
  • Analyze the PDF locally in your browser

Inspect fonts embedded in a PDF

Use the extracted data to diagnose font substitution, verify print files, inspect PDF generation, or identify the typefaces used in an authorized document.

  • Check whether a font is actually embedded
  • Find pages that reference each font
  • Recognize six-letter PDF subset prefixes
  • Review page usage and file size before downloading

Extract PDF fonts without uploading

PDF parsing, font extraction, and ZIP creation run in browser memory. The source document and extracted font data stay on your device.

  • No document-processing upload
  • No signup or watermark
  • No changes to the original PDF
  • Download only fonts you are licensed to use

Practical guide

What to know before you start

Extract fonts from a PDF online by scanning each page for embedded font resources, showing their page usage and file size, and downloading the data individually or together in a ZIP—all without uploading the document.

Extract embedded fonts used by the PDF

KissPDF reads each page’s drawing instructions and records font resources that contain downloadable embedded data. The result shows the PDF font name, pages where it appears, and embedded file size.

  • Every page is scanned locally
  • Repeated use of the same font is combined into one result
  • Page numbers help identify where each font is used
  • Fonts without embedded data are ignored

Understand embedded and subset fonts

PDF creators often embed only the glyphs needed by the document. These subset fonts usually have a six-letter prefix such as ABCDEF+ before the family name. They can be downloaded, but they may not contain the alphabet, weights, or symbols needed for another document.

  • Embedded does not always mean complete
  • Subset labels are preserved in the report
  • Page usage and embedded file size are shown
  • Type 3 PDF fonts are ignored because they are not reusable desktop font files

Download one font or a ZIP

Download an individual embedded font from its result card, or collect all extractable fonts in a ZIP archive. The extension is detected from the font header when possible. PDF.js may rebuild some embedded data as browser-compatible OpenType, so the downloaded bytes are not guaranteed to be identical to the source stream.

  • Common outputs include OTF and TTF
  • File names are cleaned for the local file system
  • Duplicate embedded data is included only once
  • Keep the PDF as the authoritative source

Check licensing before reuse

A font embedded in a PDF is not automatically licensed for installation, editing, redistribution, or commercial work. Consult the font’s license or the document owner before using extracted data outside the original PDF.

  • Extraction does not grant a font license
  • Subset fonts are mainly useful for inspection and recovery
  • Scanned image-only PDFs usually contain no extractable fonts
  • The selected PDF remains in browser memory

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers based on how this tool actually works.

How do I extract fonts from a PDF?

Select the PDF and wait for the page scan to finish. Download an available embedded font from its card, or use Download All as ZIP.

Can I get a font from a PDF?

Yes, when the PDF contains an embedded font program. KissPDF ignores fonts that are only referenced by name because those files are not stored inside the PDF.

Is this a PDF font recognizer?

It identifies the names of embedded PDF fonts and the pages that use them. It does not visually guess a typeface from scanned text or page images.

Can every PDF font be extracted?

No. A PDF can reference a font installed on the creator’s system without embedding its data, and Type 3 fonts are PDF drawing programs rather than conventional reusable font files.

Why does an extracted font have only some characters?

It is probably a subset font. PDF software commonly embeds only the glyphs used in that document to reduce file size.

Are extracted fonts identical to the original files?

Not always. PDF.js can normalize or rebuild embedded font data into browser-compatible OpenType. The output preserves available glyph data but may not be byte-for-byte identical to the original font file.

Can this find fonts in a scanned PDF?

Only if the PDF also contains a text layer with referenced fonts. A page made entirely from scanned pixels has no embedded text font to extract.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Page scanning, font extraction, and ZIP creation run locally in your browser.
